An overview of the Cooking Glass Website

The Cooking Glass website is an Australian based resource for all those with an interest in glass, either in art or in architecture; be they hobbyist or artist, amateur or professional, student or teacher.

With accent on the most widely practiced area of glass work, kilnforming, it covers all aspects from the basics of cutting glass, right through the technical complexities of glass working and firing processes, to the understanding, repairing and even the building of kilns and other necessary equipment.

Site content is arranged into a number of levels to cater to the differing needs or  expertise of people working with glass, and includes Basic kilnforming, Advanced kilnforming and All about kilns.

  • Basic kilnforming provides an introduction to the materials equipment and techniques used; sufficient to whet the appetite of the casual viewer and to encourage them to look further.
  • Advanced kilnforming deals with all of the techniques and processes of both hot(warm) and cold working of glass.
  • All about kilns gives comprehensive coverage of the operation maintenance and construction of kilns and things to be considered when choosing a kiln for a particular application.

The Forums area is intended to support both hobbyists and professional glass workers wherever they are located. Use them to seek advice from a wider audience, to offer advice, to make contact with like minded enthusiasts, and to generally assist with networking across time and space.

If you have your own thoughts on a topic or disagree with me on a matter of content  you can use the “Contact” function to tell me directly, or express your points through one of the Forum discussions. Both avenues will get a response. You can also add a comment on a page; but that may take longer to get a response from me as I may not see it straight away.

The powerful Search facility, accessible at the top right corner of the Home page, gives instant access to the full content of all areas of the site; including technical sections, Forums and Glossary.

The Gallery is intended to provide a showcase for talented artists. This not only to help them distribute their work but also to allow others to view and ask themselves the perennial questions; ‘I wonder how that was done’, or ’I wonder if I could do that’.

Access to all areas of the site is free and made possible by the generosity of our advertisers and sponsors. Please support them.
